THE TROPHIA BUTTERFLY FOUNDATION & GARDEN
CLUB COLLABORATION AT GERALD ADAMS SCHOOL
On Wed, Feb 25 the Trophia Butterfly Foundation and the Key West
Garden Club worked together with Margo Ellis' class at Gerald Adams
School. Miss Ellis had asked for help in recreating a butterfly garden that had been wiped
out by the flood during Wilma. The Trophia Butterfly Foundation agreed to donate plants
and the Garden Club agreed to help with the planting.
Through the cooperation of Julia Woods and Mama's Rock & Sand, where
Julia works, a large number of butterfly & native plants were purchased and brought to the
school. Garden Club members Dorothy Williams and Joyce Drake aided in the process as
well as Sue Sullivan and Julia Woods who are also Trophia Butterfly Foundation Board
Members.
Miss Ellis' class worked very hard at digging and learning how to
take plants out of their pots, planting, fertilizing and mulching. The
finished garden will be maintained by the class. Reference materials
about the plants and butterflies were given to the class for future
education.
